Definition of a segment

A segment is a part of line, which is limited by two points.

The ends of the segment are the points, by which the line is limited.

Definition of a segment

Let A and B be two points on line а. These points form a segment, which is called AB.

Segment AB contains points A and B and all points on line a  (marked in red colour the same as line а), which lie between A and B.

The main properties of the measurements of the segment

  • Each segment has a certain length being greater than zero.

  • The length of segment AB is also called the distance between points A and B.

  • The length of the segment is equal to the sum of lengths of the parts, into which it is divided by any of its points.

The length of segment AB

The length of the segment АВ =АС+СD+DВ

The length of the segment АD=AC+CD

The length of the segment CB=CD+DB
